Harold Arlen: “Over the Rainbow”

We all know “The Wizard of Oz” and Harold Arlen's great music in that movie including the American classic “Over the Rainbow.”  Arlen wrote so many other great songs with many different collaborators – most notably Yip Harburg.  His bluesy influence is heard in songs like “Blues in the Night,” “Come rain or come shine”, “The man that got away”(made famous by Judy Garland), “Stormy Weather” (which he wrote for Ethel Waters but was later a theme song for Lena Horne), “Paper Moon,” “My shining Hour,” “That old black magic,” “Sleepin' Bee” (lyric by Truman Capote) and “Accentuate the positive” (lyric by Johnny Mercer).   The list goes on and on.  This show has tremendous variety.
